Hi,

Pleae forgive me if this question was asked before. I would like to know the difference. Thank you.

Abbas Ali

The only difference as of now is that 1.5.x is conceptual while NG stands created :D.

The main difference imo will be the coding. Also there will be difference in features. Can tell you more only after we have something to show in 1.5.x.

Will cpgNG replace cpg1.5.x in the future? Or will both coexists?

Thank you for your reply.

Abbas Ali

Can't say, rather, don't know what will happen in future....

to get an idea what might be in cpg1.5.x, take a look at http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=43.0

There are some things that are on the todo list for cpg1.5.x - some of them are just cosmetical, others will have a deeper impact. They all have one thing in common: they only exist in the heads of the devs and wait to be coded.
My top priority for cpg1.5.x is noob-friendliness, so I'm currently working on a wizard-like installer that will perform all types of checks (e.g. "do all needed files exist where they're suppossed to be", "are the folders that are meant to be writable actually writable", "is the mysql data the user entered actually valid", "does the image library actually exist" etc.).
There's no saying what the other devs are working on, you'll probably see new features pop-up if you do checkouts of the devel branch of the cvs once in a while. We definitely won't announce future features that haven't been coded yet, as users tend to start asking for the release dates pretty soon.
I understand and appreciate your concern, but so far we simply don't have anything to show yet, so the discussion is futile.

1.5 and NG will co-exist! There is no other alternative.

Yes I would like to see some thrust from devs on 1.5 as well - Realistically speaking NG currently as it stand is a wonderful toy for hackers - so if you are into PHP coding and want a stand alone cpg then do try out NG otherwise it is best to stick to 1.x branch
