I have a bunch of images and have had problems with things getting out of order in Coppermine. I've also had similiar problem with other thumbnail programs.

When naming files, I named them a1.jpg , a2.jpg. a3.jpg and so on. Sometimes, file like

a1069.jpg  will showup before
a107.jpg

I'm wondering what best way to rename files to keep order would be.

If I had same number of characters for each filename, like
a1, a2, a3, .. a9
b1, b2, b3 .. b9

this might fix it.  When batch adding pictures, I notice that it usually adds each file numerically the way it should with 1 coming before 2, etc.  So, then I selected sort by date added in Config area in Coppermine.  However, some images apparrently are added out of order. I think if Imagemagic is busy doing one image, it will skip to another. So, images aren't always added in complete order I think.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

haven't experienced any "funny" behaviour, always worked as expected - maybe someone else experienced this?

Computer are of course stupid, so if you add a1.jpg, a9.jpg and a10.jpg, they will be sorted as a1, a10, a9...

That's why I batch-rename all my pic series before I upload them - I use the tool 1-4a rename to add leading zeros to my pics, so they become 001.pg, 002.jpg etc (instead of 1.jpg, 2.jpg...).

I'll have to play around with that program or another one. It seem like your naming style might work. The only potential problem I can see is when it goes from 9 to 10 it adds another 0,  so 00009,  000010. I will see if I can rename and skip the last 0. I think there is probably option to delete trailing 0's

Well I just downloaded it, and it works correctly for me. Using the 'add lead' set at 0, and 3 digits, 9 becomes 009, and 10 becomes 010.

It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here
