Today my hostingprovider had switched the server setting from:
Primary: PHP4, Secondary: PHP5, to Primary: PHP5
After this upgrade I'm no longer able to access CPG. I got error 500: Premature end of script headers: index.php
In which way can I change CPG to work with PHP5.
A new install is no option, because my gallery has over 8000 pictures, and don't want to lose them.

A link to your gallery?

Meanwhile, tell your webhosting fix the problem. Error 500 it's work of them to solve it. ;)

I contacted my webhosting provider, they are rollingback this change.
But I need to prevent this problem for the future, so I'm looking for other solutions.
It's likely that somewhere in the future PHP5 will be the only version on the server.

without index.php you'll get a temporary "work in progress" page ;-)

Tell your hosting to apply changes in the correct way. :)

Coppermine works under PHP 5  just perfect!

Even when the php version changes, in this case from version 4 to 5?
CPG doesn't look what version of PHP is running while installing, and make configuration changes to work? In that case it can be a problem to migrate.

You need to upgrade now before any further support can be given.

<!--Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.14 (stable)-->

The current version is 1.4.20.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

<!--Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.14 (stable)-->

The current version is 1.4.20.

Even when you upgrade to 1.4.20 you still need to replace the "Powered by coppermine" tag in order to recieve any support at all. Having that tag is mandatory and not an option.

Joachim Müller

As Hein suggested: restore the "Powered by Coppermine" tag. If you don't, you'll be liable for license fraud.
