Hi all.

Coppermine 1.5.8 bridged with SMF 1.1.11 separate databases.

http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/

I finally took the plunge and upgraded my gallery from 1.4.27 to 1.5.8.  All seemed to go well until I click on a photo to view it.  For some reason it takes ages for the pic to load, and sometimes the browser stops responding.

I've done this on my testsites without problems, but this has me stumped.  Any help would be appreciated.

Which browser are you using? Is it the intermediate view or the full size giving you issues?
I didn't have an issue viewing pics in Chrome 6.0.472.63

Jeff, it was click a thumbnail to view the intermediate that was slow.  I tried it in IE8, and Firefox.

Version checker shows quite a few modified files too, and these are fresh copies from the package.

It is working nice and quickly for me but I am on a 30meg connection. Please try disabling all your plugins and see if that speeds things up. If so enable them one by one until you find which may be causing the problem.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Hmm, I'm not having any issues with your site in IE8 or Firefox 3.6.9.
Maybe someone else can clue you in to the issues but it seems client related to me.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Nibbler

That seems to be related to a plugin named 'lightbox notes for net'. Disable it.

Thanks I'll test without the plugins.

That's a bit more reassuring.  I'll get my members to test it.  I'll leave this as not resolved though for the moment. ;)

Any ideas about the modified files showing in version checker?

Thanks, I'll try that one first.

Your displayimage.php also has this in the <head>.
Quote<script type="text/javascript" src="plugins/enlargeit/js/enlargeit.js"></script>

Which imho seems to be out of place....I'll see if the two plugins get along on a test gallery.

Joe Carver

The two plugins do not seem to interfere....however I am interested to see why / how LightBox got in the way of your upgrade.

lurkalot

Joe, I'd like to point out that the plugin didn't get in the way of my upgrade in any way.  ;)

I had just upgraded and then installed these three plugins,

Slider animation on album list page for cpg1.5.x

EnlargeIt! AJAX GUI for CPG 1.5.x

And your plugin, which is great by the way.  and would really like to use it. LightBox Slideshow jquery (NotesFor.net) v3.1

It was my fault for not testing the gallery properly before installing the plugins.  I would have noticed the problem if I had, but thought it was just my internet connection playing up.  Good job Nibbler was on the ball.

Joe, is there a workaround for this problem?  I used the 1.4.x versions of those plugins without problem.  It would be a shame if they can't be used together now. :(

I'll post it in your plugin thread if you don't wish to answer it here. ;)

You will need to re-enable the plugin so that I can take a look. From what I have read in this thread your connection/ browser seemed to create a unique issue when you visited your site, but not others.

I will also try to re-test on my side with those two plugins.

lurkalot

Thanks Joe, I'll turn it back on for a while then.

I tried this album in Opera:
http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=140

This one using IE8.
http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=348

These two with Firefox
http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=137
http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=141

I could not see any speed / timing issues out of the ordinary.

The only thing I can ask you to try is a logged / unlogged user test. What are your members saying?
Is there any local condition specific to your connection, like a firewall, internet security software, etc that could be interfering?

Thanks Joe.  You may have found something.   I tried the albums you mentioned and it worked fine for me too.  It's viewing the images when clicked from the gallery front page, that's when the problem shows up for me.

Try scrolling down on the front page, and selecting a thumbnail from there.

That is expected behavior. Take a look at the source of the displayimage.php page. You will see a gargantuan list of links......

So to quote from the Lightbox config. doc..
Number of files in album to list for Slideshow
QuoteLarge albums and/or galleries might want to limit the value. For example: "Lastup" from the home page leads to all links in a gallery. The corresponding displayimage.php page then would have all of those links listed for the LightBox.

Set that value to 500 or less. See what happens and go to a higher value if it works.

I'm really embarrassed now.  :-[ Looks like that was the answer Joe, thank you very much for your help on this.  ;)

Marking solved.
