Critical error The registration confirmation email can't be send!

 I've sort of got CPG up and running however I cannot get it to send a confirmation email.
Ive tried using sendmail by leaving the fields blank and I've tried my smtp server (smtp.pobox.com) but they both give the same error message 'The registration confirmation email can't be send'.

My emails work, so I can send emails through this smtp server. I've turned on logging but there is nothing in there.
Are there any other settings which need changing?

So, next I tried two smtp servers both with SSL and neither work I have tried:
ssl://smtp,pobox.com
ssl://smtp,pobox.com:587
ssl://smtp.gmail.com
ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465
not sure what else I can try. It does look as if it is a CPG / setup issue but I am not sure how to prove or disprove this.

Can anyone help me?

You must have OpenSSL support enabled in PHP and the SMTP server must support SSL connections for this to work.

Sorry, I should have said that I saw this in the help files

When I log in as admin and use the phpInfo tool it tends to indicate openSSL in present and enabled.

You probably need to use ssl://smtp.pobox.com:465 but I would ask them.
