I'm like to have my album thumbnails be a custom image that isn't in the album itself. Is there any way to do this?

I looked at this before, but it seems to be for videos, not the actual albums. Am I missing something?

if coppermine has created a thumbnail thumb_foo.jpg for you, just overwrite it with a custom one named thumb_foo.jpg, that's all.

I'd like my album thumbnail (on the main and other pages) to be a picture that is no where in the actual albums. I'm not sure, but I don't think this will work that way because I still have to add a photo. Mayble I'm missing something...

@GauGau:
i think what clearhill is meaning is that he wants for every album his own thumbnail that is NOT from the inner thumbnails of the uploaded album pictures AND ALSO he means not a media data type specific icon that is guilty for all thumbnails!

btw this is a feature what i am really miss, too!
maybe it would be great to upload an own/individual  picture in the modifyalb.php section for every album?!

I take this as a feature request for future versions of coppermine then, because with the current versions, you can't have album thumbnails that don't already exist within the album. Although I can understand that you want this feature I can not promise any dev will take this request up. Personally, I won't code such a thing, as I find it a bloat-feature.
Of course you're welcome to code a modification and post it here.

There is a way to do this.

1.  Upload the pic you want as the album thumb, into the album.
2.  Edit the album properties, and make this the album thumb.
3.  Create a new private album, visible to you only.
4.  Now move the pic from the public album to the new private album.

The album will still show the thumb you selected, BUT ONLY until the next time you change the album properties.  Then you will have to move it into the album and do it again.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

May be someday Coppermine will require a book by itself  for all the neat tricks - Just like phpMyAdmin ;)
