The Old Man

Hi all,
I'm using Coppermine v1.3.2 and until today have not had any problems. However I noticed one of my images that I had uploaded some time ago had become corrupted. I deleted the image and reuploaded it after checking my original on my PC. However the image is still corrupt. I cleared out my browser cache and no effect. I used the rebuild thumbs option in the Admin Utils panel and no luck.

However if I go straight to the image in my browser its fine! See here:

If I view the image as part of the slideshow its fine.
Its corrupt in the thumbnail views and when viewed normally from the gallery.

Here's some screenshots of what I mean:

I'm using Imagemagik and until today have not had this problem.

I just visited your site and didn't see any corruption.  Have you tried visiting your site from another computer and/or a different browser?
Do not send me a private message unless I ask for one.  Make your post public so everyone can benefit.

There are no stupid questions
But there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

Looked fine to me, too. And it helped a lot that you posted a screenshot so we could tell what to look for. Thanks. :)

I remember seeing this some time ago, but cannot remember the cause.  I think it has something to do with your watermark.

I see the image ok,in firefox, but not in IE.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

The Old Man

Thanks for the replies! I'm actually viewing from a different PC, this time from work instead of home. At first I thought, my god, the image is fine. Then I opened it up and saw a lot less corruption from here. Here's what I see from the PC in work:

There are some white dots on the characters back.

Regarding the watermark, this image along with two others has been downloaded from a different site to my PC, then uploaded to my gallery. The watermark, if it is one (I thought it was just part of the image), was already on. Strange thing is that I've viewed these images before and nver had the problem at all until today.

I'm using IE6 with WinXP SP2 at home, and IE6 on Win98SE in work.

I knew I'd seen it before, and with some searching, not easy, I found it, HERE.

It's a problem with the theme you are using, but easy enough to cure.

Yup, when I switched it to classic, the specks disappeared in IE.

The image couldn't have been corrupted if viewing it directly showed no specks, btw.

The Old Man

Hi,
Thanks for the replies! Sorry for not responding quicker but I didn't get any 'Reply to Topic' notifications - for some reason they've stopped.
Anyhoo, you are quite right this is a known bug or quirk witht he Microsoft filter. I did a Google search after I couldn;t find info at the MSDN site on issues. I found this: http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=4284). It basically confirms to remove the problem, you must stop using the filter.

I'm currently experimenting and have found that if I set the shadow colour to black, it works fine, although in this case black isn't a very suitable for a shadow colour. So I'm going to experiment and see if I can find a colour that works ok and looks ok - or else I'll abandon the shadow idea.

The Old Man

Well after some rather rapid testing I've come to the conclusion that I have to remove the shadow filter. I also tried the dropsahadow filter and the same thing happens. It doesn't matter what colour you select for the shadow, its the same pixels in the image that are effected. I wonder if its something to do with the no of colours in the image or something.

Regardless, thanks for the solution, you fixed the problem and the images now look great again.
