Often in my gallery I upload a small image that I immediately have, and then later want to upgrade that image to a much bigger version.

I can overwrite the file easy in FTP, and if I use Admin Tools, I can get it to recognize and upgrade the thumbnail and the picture, but the picture remains at the old images constraints.

Is there an option I'm missing to "resize" the image FRAMES for the gallery? Like I said, I tried the "update for resized Photos" in Admin Tools, but it merely shows me that yes, it sees there's a new image, but no, I must view it through the old dimensions. It's soooo close to being right, but not quite. I really don't want to lose views and comments each time I upgrade an image.

editing to add, if you view the slideshow of the album, it shows up fine! how bizarre

I think you have to edit the information on the file by going into the database.

Vague that up a little for me?

I did discover the new "Crop and Rotate" button on each picture, while producing an error message, does seem to "reset" the picture. Well, you hit that button, then save, then X out of that screen, back in your image page hit F5 and it expands the image to regular size.

So it's a work around, but I'd still like to hear if there's a mass update type of thing possible.

well, once a file is in coppermine's database, you mustn't touch it with ftp. That's the "culprit", the basic "fault" you're making. If you must "play against the rules" by tinkering with things you're not suppossed to, you should be able to bear the consequences, which means tinkering with the database (using a tool like phpMyAdmin) as well. This is not recommended, as the point in having coppermine is that you let it do all the things that are necessary once it's on the webserver and inside the database. What you are doing is imo simply improper use of coppermine. The admin tools don't re-read the original file for dimensions, they just rebuild the inetrmediate pic and thumbnails (this is by design).
I'm sorry I have no better answer for you.

Ok, so how DO you update an existing photo?

thanks.

As was said, by ftping new version, and messing with the database (not recommended, but doable).

FYI, this has been added to the next version, so you can do this easily from the coppermine admin tools menu.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here
