You can't create subalbums; you would need to create subcategories. It's like in real life where you can't stick albums into albums.

::) ::)
In my real life i am using ACDSee, and i can make subAlbums there !
in fact its the normalest thing in computer life i thinkt to make subAlbums.
i think it not beeing a good or prakticable concept of parting it up into
albums and categorys. this is much too unflexible i think

What Tranzndance meant by real life was just that, real life, not another computer program.

When you take pics of the family, and have them printed, you put them in an album.  You probably have several albums, sorted(categorised) by events, time of life, hols etc.

You put the pics in albums, because if you did not, they would eventually all become mixed up and difficult to find.

But you cannot put one album inside another.

But, we are looking at this for future versions.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

Well its like Nibbler pointed out. You don't stick the weddingpictures album into the rockclimbing album for example.

If you want a subalbum structure you could try this:

Category
Album
Subcategory
Album
Album
Album

That would give you some sort of subalbum idea.

It certainly will not be in the next version.  We are talking about changing the cat/album structure for when we head for version 2, which at the moment is still in the 'drawing board' stage.

Yeah, that's really smart to cop an attitude toward people who have no obligation to help you. Keep it up.

You're right - and it's even worse to cowardly edit/remove a posting instead of just saying "I'm sorry, I have made a mistake"... [:|

i just searched the board and had to realize that it is impossible to create subalbums!!?  :\'(

i read this thread and thought i had to post that i definitely think that it would be a nice & necessary feature.

yeah thats true. BUT what if you had two photographers on the wedding, and after one week you get anoter set of 100 pics - you would have to put these pics in the same album. so all users that already viewed the first pics would have to go through them again. (okay you can sort by filedate, but that's not a nice solution on separating the pics.)

the point is that i don't need subalbums in every album but only sometimes (e.g. when i have two photographers on an event)
so i can't use subcategories because i cannot sort them in the way i would like!

that would be fine with me, but is it really possible?

i would need it like this:

Category
Album
Subcategory (including some albums)
Album
Album

the problem is that the subcategories always show up underneath the other albums in the category, so you can't use it when you want to order your galleries by the date of the event.

i hope you unterstand what i mean. see my test-gallery there you should see what i mean.
looking forward to read what you think about it. i really think this feature should be possible somehow.. otherwise i will have to try gallery 1 or 2 - where subalbums are a standard feature. wouldnt be happy with this because i already fell in love with coppermine :(

no hack available. Sub-albums is being considered for the future. If you need it badly now, I'm afraid you'll have to use gallery - sorry.

heatheranne

I have a question.  If I wanted say 7 different sub albums, could I just create a category to hold them all?  Like if I created wedding as a category, could I then create getting ready as an album and then reception as an album and then ceremony and have them all as albums under the category wedding?
Sincerely,
Heather Anne

Yes. However from your other thread, it seems you're not using batch add, so your albums are in User Galleries, where you cannot create categories. please review the manual on how to create categories and albums.

Thanks to that post, I figured out the answer to another question.  That user galleries was driving me crazy.  Fixing that alone gave me a better idea of how to understand and use Coppermine.  Thank you.  Going to check out documentation now to try and see why comments are not available to visitors.  I didn't see the documentation.  I installed with Fantastico and came right over here to try and figure some things out.  Thanks for your patience :)
Sincerely,
Heather Anne
