Modify layout

Hello,
I just did a clean install of the new 1.44 version which I had no problems. What I would like to know is there away to show that I want all my catorgeries and albums setup like this.
category       (vertically)   
user galleries     
test1
test2

or     
user galleries     user galleries    test1     test2 (Horizontally)


Instead of one album per line have maybe 4 albums per lline
albums
my pic    testing      cars       picnic       (all in one line) (Horizontally)

or (vertically)   
albums
my pic
testing 
cars     
picnic

categories (on a out of the box cpg) are displayed below each other (vertically)

albums... you can chose how many in a row and per site
config-> Album list view
   -Number of albums to display      (how many albums per site)
   -Number of columns for the album list    (how many albums in a row)
