Hi,

I know where to look, http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/manual.php#modif_alb_pics tells me there should be a link "this album can be viewed by..." but it's not there. I only see 3 different permissions I can set for the album "visitors can upload pictures" and further down, but I'm unable to edit the properties to a private album.

Any thoughts?

In config, set 'users can have private albums' to YES.
You will then have the view permissions box again.

If you don't want anyone to have a private album, go into 'groups' and change the permissions for 'can have private album' there.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

thanks, that worked out for me. The only problem now being that I created a group called Family and changed the view permissions to only that group, which effectively locked me as an administrator out of my own album properties. I can't add myself to the family group :S

Ok, now in config, set 'show private album icon to unlogged user' to yes'

You will now see the icon, and if you(admin) click on it, you will go to, and be able to edit, the album.  Other users, not in the family or admin group, will not see the pics, or the thumbnails, just the private icon.
