Am I missing something?

I'm a recent switcher from "Gallery" which had the ability for any uploaded original image to be resized to say 800 or 1024 pixels or whatever you choose.  Is this possible with Coppermine?   I can forsee problems with non-technical users trying to upload 4mb files and eating up space.  (I know you can set a limit to the size each user can upload)

I'm just looking for the ability for the non-technical user's screwup to be corrected when the file uploads.

Exists?  Doesn't Exist?  Go the hell away noobie?

take a look at the admin tool "resize pictures" - look for the last option "Delete original size photos"... Might be what you're looking for.

it is possible using the xp publish utility.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

Excuse me gaugau but what do u mean? Is this implemented or do you mean the mods that have been posted in the forum?

moorey

It's implemented in CGP1.2 onwards. Log in as admin and have a look at the toolbars. It's the last one.

Thank you... The hardwired theme does not show that tab... ;)

Ah. Hardwired is inherently a little buggy pre 1.2.. unfortunately not much has changed and it only sorta works on Mac browsers. Will note this one down.

ok,  what Gallery product does is allows you to upload a 2048 pixel wide image.   Upon upload it will resize your original to say 800 pixels wide, then also build your intermediate image of say 450 pixels as well as your thumbnails and then your original is discarded.

It allows you to avoid ongoing bloat of your archive as well as keeps high quality images out of the hands of people who may use them as they were not intended to be used.   Some of us are concerned with that.

I seem to recall that the Gallery functionality was done by a Mod or Hack via a new .php file  myresize.php or something like that.   You just ran that .php file from your web browser and it gave you the ability to control, resize, delete, etc images falling in your different directories.

Does that explain the functionality/usage better?

[ NOTE: this is in no way 'complaining' about Coppermine.  It is just a functionality that was very handy in Gallery and is sorely missed in Coppermine.  I'm very happy that I've switched to Coppermine and have suggested it to several others who do similar type personal sites.]

take a look at the "resize pictures" tool in the admin menu, option "Delete original size photos". Not exactly the same, but might help for the moment. The best solution is: batch-resize your pics on your client (pc) before uploading, will save you a lot of upload time and gives you a lot more control over the resizing process than GD or ImageMagick possibly can on a server-based application.
Apart from that: the feature you're requesting is already on my to-do list...

cool.

Thanks an encouraging enough answer to get me to shut up.  :-)

As I said...  I'm content with the system.

This would be a very handy feature for me, too!
