what is the disadvantage when im setting the maximum height of uploadable pics higher then the default?? coppermine creates a thumb and a suitable pic so whats the thing about this value?

Are you referring to the maximum pixel allowance of 2048 pixels? If so, the only real disadvantage other than the huge picture popup would be possible fatal errors if your memory allotment is not high enough to handle processing a picture of that size.

hmm, there is still the value of maximum size of the pic to keep an eye on my webspace but the memory could be a problem. afaik my hoster spends me 8 mb ram for my site.

With 8mb of ram, you are likely to encounter problems when adding/editing pics over 1200x 900 pixels.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here
