Hi,

Ok I know you brainy lot are probably going to groan "not another newbie" lol  But please can someone help???

I have a phpbb forum and I'd like to embed coppermine into it so that my guests can post their photo's.  However, being completely new to all this and as thick as a plank I can't work out how to do it.  I have tried following the installation instructions but to be honest it's all a bit over my head and all I get is a white window filled with a list of errors.  Please can anyone give me any plain english instructions for this??

Many thanks in advance of any help.

First get coppermine working standalone (without bbs integration).
Then follow the documentation. If you don't understand the instructions given there, ask a friend to help you with it. If you have a peculiar problem, search the board. If you don't come up with a result that makes sense to you, post again, but make sure to provide more info (at least a link to your site and a phpBB test user account without admin privileges).

Hi,

Thank you for your help.  I have installed coppermine as standalone to begin with as you suggested, however I can't seem to upload any pictures??

The url of the board is: http://www.gemsnthings.co.uk/coppermine/  I have created a test account, Username: testuser  Password: test

Thanks again for all your help  :)

Don't use the beta.  Use 1.2.1.  (Just delete the files and the database tables, and then install 1.2.1).  1.3 will be out of beta shortly, so the amount of work required to bring the beta you have up to date would be silly when compared to waiting for a stable 1.3.

Hi,

Thanks, I have done that now, but when I try to post pics using my testuser account I get the following errors:

Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /pub/home/skie119/htdocs/coppermine/db_input.php on line 261

Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /pub/home/skie119/htdocs/coppermine/include/picmgmt.inc.php on line 191

Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /pub/home/skie119/htdocs/coppermine/include/picmgmt.inc.php on line 191

It allows for the pic to go to admin for approval but it's annoying having that on the top of the screen when anyone tries to post.  I have chmod'ed the albums and include folder as per the setup instructions.

Sorry to be such a pain  ::)

Have you made sure ALL the albums inside the albums folder are also chmod the same?
Also that in your config this is set at default for 'Default mode for directories' in config.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

skie

Ok thanks that has got rid of 2 of the errors for me but I'm still getting:

Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /pub/home/skie119/htdocs/coppermine/db_input.php on line 261

In my config, Default mode for directories in the config is set to: 0755 is that right?

Thanks again,

Jayne

Joachim Müller

Depends on your webserver's config, you could try 777 as well.

Also, check phpinfo() to see if CHMOD is in the forbidden function list.

Thanks guys, i've now tried both suggestions but I'm still getting the error.  I can't find any reference at all to CHMOD in phpinfo am I looking in the right place??  I'm assuming you mean phpinfo in the main coppermine directory and not in one of the subdirectories?

Thanks very much

Did you bother to read what is on the page I posted a link for?
http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/faq.php?q=VersionPHP#VersionPHP

Being a newbie is a poor excuse for being to lazy to read...

Yes and being experienced is no excuse for such a poor attitude!!!  Actually yes I did read it but as I explained I am new to all this and quite frankly I didn't understand a word of it!

My sincere apologies for being too thick for you!

OK, if you would have visited http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/faq.php?q=VersionPHP#VersionPHP as suggested, you would have read this
Quotecreate a blank file named "info.php", put this code into it: <?php phpinfo(); ?>, upload this file to your webserver and run it in your browser (e.g. http://www.yourdomain.com/info.php).
Is this still too complicated for you? Then my advice is to do a bit more research first - Coppermine is easy to set up, but you should have at least a little idea how the web works to install and run it.

Ok well look back at the orginal link you gave me... that was http://www.php.net/phpinfo

Not the same page is it??

Yes I understand a little of the second one you gave me but that first one may as well be written in chinese to me!  I understnad how the web works well enough thanks, but we're not all born with excellent knowledge of every aspect of computing.  If you're offering a service you have to expect that people have to start somewhere and learn somehow.  That's all I am trying to do, so please understand that being a newbie doesn't mean you're not worthy of a little help and common courtesy  ;)
