Turn on debug mode in config (at the bottom of the page).
Now try again, and post the results here.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

what file were you actually trying to upload. You have to understand that GD doesn't have support for .gif files (yet). Also, check your phpinfo (log in as admin, admin mode, admin tools, phpinfo) and check the "gd" section - it should look like this:
Quotegd
GD Support  enabled
GD Version  bundled (2.0.15 compatible)
FreeType Support  enabled
FreeType Linkage  with freetype
GIF Read Support  enabled
JPG Support  enabled
PNG Support  enabled
WBMP Support  enabled
XBM Support  enabled
Copy'n paste the output into your posting here (do not post a link to your phpinfo file, we won't be able to access it)

P.S. You seem to have had difficulties posting your debug.txt, so I removed your double posting above where you just quoted yourself
