Hi, I have Coppermine version: 1.5.40 installed, has  been installed for more than a few years and had no problems what so ever but today when I tried to open it I recieved the message "Fatal error :" in the upper left hand side of the screen. Not knowing what to do I came to here looking for answers but not really sure of what I'm looking for as I'm not really technically all that together but I have upgraded the gallery a couple of times but today I get nothing. Any ideas where to start or what to do?

Could be a lot of things. Would you be able to either ask your host for the error log, or get the full display of errors turned one. This way we can see what the actual error is.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Will try to contact for the server host log but till then I found this in the coppermine error log:

1452762562: /hermes/bosweb26a/b362/ipw.typomaniac101/public_html/pics/ssv3_installer_payload-NfbdhaAdxZ.php startup

Hope that helps. btw.. the gallery ran flawlessly since 2010

Not sure what's up here, but I started looking through the logs and the database log said it couldn't connect to the MySQL server so I went to PHP MyAdmin and reset the password and whether or not that fixed it or what but it came back to life. Sure do appreciate the quick reply.

That file you mention is not part of coppermine. It could be that your server has been compromised in some way. You really need to go through and check for erroneous files, the update to the latest release.
