I can explain you my question best with my own gallery as example: the "homepage" of my gallery is http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/

When I enter this page and click on the users category "Fiat 124 Spider" I enter a new window with (at the moment) 6 album thumbnails pictures with under each thumbnail the (sometimes odd) username and the number of albums and files of this user.
This window is: http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1

When I click in this mentioned "/index.php?cat=1" -window on one of the thumbnails, I enter the next window called for instance http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=10042 . The other thumnails give likewise category numbers as "cat= 10019" , "cat=10030" etc.
Are you able to inform me please, how I can simply skip this (in-between) "cat=1"-window and enter from my first home-window directly to the "cat=1042" and other categorynumber thumbnails all gathered in one window?

Thank you for your appreciated help. Best regards.

Yeah, I have the exact same question!  And your top-level Home category - I don't get that one either.  If you click on (same as mine), it just takes you to an irrelevant page.  I don't even see why it's there.  Shouldn't just the Fiat124 Spider category be there.  I mean that's the only one that has anything in it?  So why does it seem that we are forced to have this top-level category - that we can't seem to put sub-categories in?  Just doesn't make sense off hand.

Nibbler

It is because you made one main category and added subcategories inside it. If you just make 6 top level categories you won't have a problem.

clairobscur

No, not true.
I just renamed the user category to "Fiat 124 Spider"-category. The "Home" category was made several weeks AFTER, when the "Fiat 124 Spider"-category already existed.

I would love to know, how (in my specific situation) I can change it. Please tell me what to do to change it in the way I described it.
Thanks in advance.

Casper

The user galleries category (by whatever name it is called) is where users create their own albums.  They each own a sub-category of the user galleries, and can make multiple albums within this sub-cat.  There is no way to short cut this afaik.

If you are not going to have other categories, try setting your home page as http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

clairobscur

Casper, I understand. But how on earth can I make http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1
look like http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?theme=hardwired ?

Apart from other subjects and items, there is a lot of difference in setup and structure.
Can you tell me what has to be changed and HOW should I change this, please?

clairobscur

I "R"ead "TFM" over and over again and can't change the problem myself.
Is one of your team willing to make the few necessary changes for me as admin? I would be very happy to give you my admin access-name and password for that.

Joachim Müller

I can't see any difference except your header graphics/logo being to wide for use with hardwired. You mustn't compare the category display of the demo with the album display of your gallery, you should compare http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1 with http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/thumbnails.php?album=5 , as you don't have "regular" categories, but only "user galleries" that behave nearly similarly to "regular" categories, but only nearly.

Joachim,
In my modest opinion there is an essential difference between both gallery addresses you are mentioning.
If I am on my address http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1 there are 6 thumbnails in a window, from which I cannot change any thumbnail text underneath. And in the example page http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/thumbnails.php?album=5 every text detail  can be changed.

Maybe I should approach my objection in a different way: Is it (as admin) in any way possible to add a more descriptive text afterwards under each thumbnail in this window http://www.globallistics.com/gallery/index.php?cat=1 ?
I would like to add (for instance) to the first thumbnail the text "Bridge over troubled water" and (if at all possible) delete the meaningless "ah1410". These descriptive additional titles are more inviting to have a look at than only the (sometimes silly) user names.

Are you able to inform me how and where I should add or changes these additions?

P.S.: I do not like to be some kind of wise guy, because I respect you and your dedication to CPG too much, but in spite of your idea: both header graphics are 778 pixels wide. Mine is however 84 pixels high instead of 61 in the original "hardwired" theme.

like I said: this is expected behaviour when (ab)using user galleries - of course the user names of the user gallery owners are displayed together with the thumbnail representing the user's album. Use "regular" categegories in the public gallery instead.

Re banner width: the one from hardwired is exactly as wide as yours, that's true, but yours doesn't have the proper bars at both sides that makes it blend with the rest:

Use "regular" categories in the public gallery instead.

Please explain me: what are "regular" categories in the "public gallery" compared with user galleries.
Maybe it is my blind spot, but I don't really understand the difference and how should I use it "instead" ?

And again: is there a way to add (as admin) text afterwards in the "cat=1" window?

Tony
(hahaha...I was most surprised that you put both headers online in the forum)
