Hi all,

My gallery has been working fine for months.. however i have just tried to upload some images to a new directory and get 'X' and the Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image message.

I dont really understand it all as it all used to work fine. I thought it might be a webspace issue but i have delete some old photos to make space but i still get that error message. The folder that these files are in have all their permissions set to 777 - so this shouldnt be an issue.

I have tried reducing the size of photos that im upgrading but still there is an issue.

Can anyone help?

I have created a TEST account:
username test, password test.
The album that i want to post into is called 'HMS Belfast 2008'

Update your gallery - current version is 1.4.18. Avoid spaces in folder names.

Is updating the gallery really the only solution?

I am currently experiencing the same problem as Wey Valley, and unfortunately, it is not within my power to upgrade the gallery (I only manage it). The owner is aware of the problem, and has contacted her host, but so far nothing has been done.

I was hoping there might be an easier solution...

Ignore my previous post...

I did some digging around and found the following set of instructions in another thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,52984.msg257510.html#msg257510)

Go to Config >> Files and Thumbnails Settings >> Max width or height of an intermediate picture/video **
Reset this from 1 to 400
For reasons completely unknown to me, the setting had been changed to 1 in my gallery. o_0

Either way, it's working now! :D

Don't use host installers like "Fantastico", instead tell your friend to follow the upgrade instructions in the documentation. A word of caution; you should review all settings and files as the "Setting the picture width to 1 px" is a symptom of a "hack" that is going around, it could be the case that your gallery has been "hacked", the "hack" only affects versions less that < 1.4.18.

This is exactly what fixed my gallery.  I did all that other crap they told me to do and none of it worked.  I wish these "helpers" would understand that not every single problem has the exact same solution.

Is this really required? I strongly recommend that you also review all files and settings for malicious material as you again have had the same problem, plus you are running 5 versions behind <!--Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.13 (stable)-->. So, of course your gallery could be exploited (possibly already has) if you don't follow the instructions to upgrade. Please watch your attitude; most problems are caused by the same things, so naturally they have the same solution, this is why you are told to closely follow the documentation and FAQ thread.

Okay - thanks for the advice - however... i have upgrade to the latest version and i still get the problem.

"Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image." - any other ideas?

Wey Valley

Just also to let you know i deleted the spaces in the folder as advised in the top of this thread... but it hasnt helped.

I have also tried to upload other photos to other albums, but the whole process of uploading from there on, still doesnt seem to work.

I can ftp the images to my upload folder etc and  i am 100% sure that ALL permissions are set to 777.

When Im at the list of new files page (the bit where you select where you want the new photos to go) there is a 'X' representing the photo. Now usually you see the image here dont you?

If i select the album i want the photo to go into and click 'insert selected files' then it takes me to the Adding new files to the gallery page and agains displays 'X'

Thanks to all in advance .....

Can anyone help?

My gallery still wont allow uploads either through batch or single.

Could it be because i have uploaded to the latest version is that not compatible with my host??? There seems to be alot of people having similar issues that are not being resolved... how can we revert back to a previous version?

Thankfully i have now been able to upload photos.

For some reason it looked like i was set on magicstick and not gp version2 (my original settings) - i didnt think I switched it... perhaps it defaulted back to that when i clicked on default settings.... anyhow... im back up and running and have stopped cursing coppermine!!!

Happy days are here again!

Thanks all for your advice

Hi, I tried not to use fantastico for installation..upload the installation files into my domain server and then install from there manually..Its Work !
Anyway, before you do that, make sure you have create a database and the user assigned for it..

Hope this can help..
