Fatal error: imagecreatefrompng

Everything was working fine, untill about the 600th image was uploaded. Now every ~~two images~~ upload I get a white page that says this:

First, I hope you aren't using the web interface to upload your images. As the admin you should FTP your images and use batch add. Read the documentation for instructions.

Second, check your PNG files for errors. I've seen this type of error when bad PNG files are uploaded. Sometimes it's related to the image program used to create the image. I would also contact your host and tell them about the problem - they may need to restart the server.

Use your FTP client and upload the first PNG image that caused the error, then post the link in your next post. I'll take a look at the image.

I don't use FTP. I don't know which PNG file did it, most of the images I upload are PNG because if I edit the pic to add a watermark that's what I save it as. Plus, once I upload the pictures I delete them from my computer.

Which is why you really should be using an FTP program. With FTP you could download all the originals while having lunch... test them. then upload them while you have dinner.

Search the net for free FTP programs. I use SmartFTP without problems.

What steps am I supposed to follow?! I put the test account up (no one has told me how to give uploading permissions like I was told to), put the debug info up, and put a link to the website. So I did follow the steps as listen in the upload trouble shooting.

I have a FTP program, but I hate FTP, and I don't have the faintest idea how to use it with coppermine.

Okay I think I've found one of the bad files. I decided to keep trying to upload my images. I got through a few PNG files, then I tried to upload this one and got the error message. I changed it to a JPG and it uploaded fine.

This is probably due to uploading images that are not actually png files but have been renamed .png

This is obviously a problem with your images, and not at all related to Coppermine or your webhost.

If you don't know how to use your FTP client, learn. There are plenty of resources, just STFW.

But I always upload PNG images that were originally JPG, but this is the first time that this has happened. Anyway, I downloaded some of the ones I converted that were capped from the Harry Potter website, and changed them to JPGs and now I'm not getting any errors so I guess that was it. Thanks for telling me about that, I never would have thought of it.

that's what Nibbler suggested: those files are not actually png files, they are other files that were renamed, so the xtension is png. You could rename them to xls as well, yet MS Excel wouldn't be able to open them. You don't convert files fromk one format to the other by just renaming them. Some image viewers on your desktop are tolrant about this, GD just isn't.
