After the beta release of cpg1.4.1 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=19374.0), there shouldn't be any more changes in the language file structure for cpg1.4.x, so we could use your help:
Translations would be very welcome. Although cpg1.4.x introduces a "language fallback" feature that displays text strings that don't exist in your language file in english, it would of course be nice if we could get as many localizations of coppermine as possible. To read more about how to create additional language files for cpg1.4.x, please refer to the Translator's guide (http://www.coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm) that comes as well with the coppermine package.
Once you translated and tested coppermine into your language, just zip the file and attach it to your reply to this thread (using the "Additional options" link at the bottom left of the page when composing your message).
I will update this thread asap.

is utf-8 being used as the default now?
i have a question about utf-8.
i know it's done automatically, but there are some issues.
i'm able to change the encoding from big5 to utf-8 without problem.
would it be okay if i send you the language in both big5 and utf-8?
Re-thinking the method we used in the past to get our language file: we used to send language files around, which is not a very bright idea, so this is the suggested method:
1) Get the most recent cpg1.4.x package from the download section (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658)
2) Get the most recent english language file from the CVS (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/lang/english.php)
3) Post a reply on this very thread, saying that you're about to translate language xxx for cpg1.4.x
4) Do the actual translation (take your time, test it on your install)
5) Zip your language file and attach it to a new reply on this board (using "Additional Options" when composing your message)

i've finished traditional chinese.
i've found some problems though.
when the language fallback feature is turned on, and going to admin tools, i get $lang_util_desc_php being called twice.
when the feature is turned off, it will show chinese like it suppose to, but when it's on, it shows both english and chinese.
also when turn on the language flag selection, chinese traditional and chinese simplified is switched.
the flag is correct, just the popup infomation is wrong.
i will edit this post and attach the language when i'm done testing.
thanks
I will translate the Italian language (italian2) from now
Claudio
Hi,
I have translated the Dutch language file and have included it here (I have no access to the cvs, sorry).
There are still a few entries missing in the english.php file, so I cannot translate them because of some missing identifiers (mainly in the $lang_util_php).
Regards,
Jan Paul
Thanks for your contribution. You can't write into the CVS (after all, it's not a wiki ;)), only dev team members can; attaching it to a posting is the recommended way, so you did the right thing. I merged your posting with the thread that deals with translation and added your file to the CVS (may take some time untill it shows up on web cvs though): http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/lang/dutch.php
As the language file for cpg1.4.x have been become much bigger than the those from older versions (due to the increased number of features), it's much more work to come up with a translation, so thanks again. As always, the dutch community proves to be very fast and active.
Cheers
GauGau
Aren't the original translators asked to do the translation again ?
At least I haven't recieved a request
Ron.
Original authors are encouraged to do the new translations, we just haven't sent out requests so far:

Ok I'll do the French translation.
sorry but I can't do it now. :\'(
I just sent an email to all members of the translators groups:
QuoteHi {$member.name},
The coppermine dev team has released a beta version of cpg1.4.x that has all features the stable version will have as well (there is a feature freeze in place). Right now, we're busy fixing bugs that exist in the beta version. To be able to release a stable version soon, we could use your help once again: as you have contributed to coppermine in the past, providing a translation in your language. We want to ask you if you could do a translation for cpg1.4.x again. You can find details in the thread http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=20355.0
We're aware that creating a translation is very much work, so we're asking a lot from you. Hopefully, you will nevertheless be willing to contribute again - we're looking forward to it.
Regards,
The Coppermine Dev Team.
;D Joachim
I'd like to do the Russian again. Looked at //cpg1.4 changes in English, it would be 10-14 days or so due to my own time constraints. Unless someone wants to do it faster, I don't mind.
it's perfectly OK that you need some time, we realize that this can't be done fast, as it's a lot of work. I'm looking forward to your contribution no matter when.
I will redo the Norwegian translation
and I will redo the Galician translation
pd.- por certo, hai alguén q sepa galego por aqui?, así podíamo-lo perfeccionar entre dous al menos moito mellor...
I would do the german translation, but I've got one problem:
I followed the 5 steps posted by gau gau, but when I do any change in the english file and save it e.g. as anotherfile.php and select it from my admin menu for testing -> the next time I open my coppermine-admin-menu all entrys and config-topics aren't listed any more. Then I can only do a reset to defaults.... ???
Any idea? (I know there's no support for 1.4.x beta, but a german translation would be nice and I already started...
ganther
I will be translating to Cymraeg (Welsh) and will be starting soon, but it might take a while.

You don't have to set the entire language to german - for testing purposes, it's enough to set your individual language to german (or whatever) - just add
&lang=yourlanguage to the url. If a language file is named "foobar.php" and your coppermine gallery is located at http://mysite.tld/coppermine/, then just type into the address bar
http://mysite.tld/coppermine/?lang=foobar. To reset the language to the default, just use a name of a language that doesn't exist, e.g. http://mysite.tld/coppermine/?lang=doesnt_exist
The language preference is stored in a cookie. Take a look at the demo and play with the language selectors - you'll notice that all it does is add something to the url in the address bar.
However: I have already started the german translation, it will be released soon.

This is the feedback from the email I sent to the translators:
- Mits agreed to do Japanese,

I know the first post lists completed files, but I think it would help translators from doing double work if they knew who is doing what (without having to wade through the posts of this thread). Could a list of in-progress translations be in the first post?

Not sure what you mean: you shouldn't start from a cpg1.3.x language file. Use the english language file from cpg1.4.1 and start translating it to your language from scratch. Use a diff viewer like Winmerge to check your translation for cpg1.3.x, but not as a base for translation, just for reference.
Joachim

Si vas a traducir a español/castellano/spanish, ya estoy yo con ello. Me vendría bien que alguien repasase lo que hay hecho, y sobre todo el tema de traducir siempre los mismos términos de la misma forma, probar que se ve bien todo en pantalla (que "cabe", que queda coherente con lo traducido, etc...).
Ponernos los dos a la vez con la traducción de lo mismo es una pérdida de tiempo. Para los dos. Para coordinarnos, ponte en contacto conmigo en dvilloldo@gmail.com

Hi, Joachim
I do not know what is UTF-8 and how to convert EUC-KR to UTF-8.
So I just read EUC-KR using MS Word and save it with Unicode(UTF-8) File Conversion Encoding.
I am not sure whether this is what you want.
If not, Could you tell me how to convert it to UTF-8.
Thanks and Regards,
Myung-Chan Lee
Hi,
The french translation is complete.
In attachement the french.php file. Thank you for checking the translation
I've seen a trouble while testing the French translation:
When clicking on the help icons (in the config page for example) the help popup is in English.
I think we must translate the /docs/index.htm page to have a complete translation.
Is it true ?
The norwegian file attached.
I haven't testet everything, but the limited parts i've tested in my testinstall seems okay.
I will upgrade my mainsite to 1.4.* soon
The file should already be converted to UTF-8 (or UltraEdit is kidding me).

yes
There is the "alpha" ver. of polish lang for CPG 1.4.x: more than 99% of all sentences was translated, but a small part of topics isn't known for me very good (e.g. I didn't use EXIF, so a few terms is still in English; in this moment I haven't possibility to test bridge manager or XP Wizard, so translation in these areas was based strictly on english text from lang).
In next step (during next a few weeks) I will try to:
- find better description and demo of unknown topics (e.g. EXIF) and translate last terms
- install one or two standalone forums/CMS and test Bridge Manager to check, the translated version is correct.
In last step I'm going to polish polish-lang and make it more accurate and friendly. Generally, I'm going to finish it after I'll pass the exam in September.
P.S. I dont know, how to define UTF-8 in file properly - in position lang_charset or by saving the file as UTF-8 file? Actually in attached zip-file there are two files - one with lang_charset setting on ISO-8859-2, second in UTF-8 - please, check, which of them is correct.
P.S.2 What with old data (e.g. comments) from old ver. of CPG, updated to 1.4.x? It will be work properlly with new charset?

Maybe it's better to generate new file based on index.htm for current language (e.g. index_pl.htm) and translate it; in current lang-file in lang directory there is possible to change the links to the help-file from index.htm to index_lang.htm.
Peter
Sorry for double-post - it was changed by me - now in old topic there is the link for this place.
ZIP-File attached today is newer and contains two files with translation - I wrote about it above.
I converted the language file from your first contrib to utf-8 already before adding it to the cvs. That's one of the reasons why double-posting is not a good idea.
Yes - you are right.
I found this topic today evening (after a break in the net a part of forum-topics is new for me)... a day after I send my last post. Sorry :(
Peter
Don't know if you've commited my contribution to the CVS yet, but this new version is based on 1.280 of the english file instead of 1.279.
A diff told me there was only a few changes in the 'FORGOT_PASSWD_PHP' section, so I did them as well...
John

why,
How can we do for having the help text en current language for all visitors (French for French lang, Deutch for German lang etc...)
when modifying the coppermine core code as suggested, you might get problems when upgrading. We're not sure yet how the help icons will be handled in the future (will everything go into the language file?). As a first step it'd be great if you translated the documentation. As a workaorund, you could do as suggested, if you can live with future versions going into another direction.

There is the slovenian language file for CPG 1.4.x: - utf-8 format (missing is only Bridge function).
V prevodu manjka samo del, ki skrbi za povezavo s forumi, cms.ji itd. (če uporabljaš te funkcije, verjetno veš kako zadeve delujejo...).

could you please do as suggested and checkout the cvs and attach a fixed version of the cvs file. Alternatively (if it's only a small fix), please post instructuctions like "Find 'foo' and replace with 'bar'". I would have to manually search for your fix, diff view your stuff and all that, which is quiet time-consuming. Like I said: I have changed things around a bit in your contribution.

I noticed the pics were all in the same folder with the fr_ prefix. Maybe images from different languages should be in their own subdirectory, just in case there are more language contributions in the future.
that's something I did. In fact it doesn't matter much to me as long as there is a prefix at all - be it on the files or on the folder. Feel free to modify accordingly.

I noticed in the first post someone had done Korean.
Is that available somewhere?
<edit>I see this is 1.4, actually I'm looking for 1.3
I see go_copper did it for 1.4.
do 1.4 launguage files work backwards to 1.3
no, you can't use language files that were created for cpg1.4.x with a cpg1.3.x install. This thread is for cpg1.4.x language files only anyway.
I see, well I guess I can try to get one made from a friend for korean. Is korean for 1.4 available somewhere as a starter?
I understand it wont work backwards.
you can check out the korean language for cpg1.4.x from the devel branch of the cvs (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/lang/korean.php). CPG1.4.x currently goes unsupported though, a translation for cpg1.3.x should be based upon the english language file from cpg1.3.x (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/stable/lang/english.php).
Please stop posting to this thread: as I suggested before, it is for cpg1.4.x contributions only, which is not what you're discussing. There's a language thread for cpg1.3.x as well that you could use instead: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=14404.0)
I have read this thread and done a search on the word "danish" without getting any posts that somebody is taking care of the danish translation, and danish is missing in GauGau´s first post in this topic. If there is not an "immediate" deadline on this project, say 2 - 3 months, I will be pleased to do the danish translation and at that way contribute to this community.
yes, Danish is missing. Your contribution would be welcome at any time. Before you start translating, take a look at the very first posting of this thread if your language has been taken then.
GauGau,
Danish is not mentioned in the first post in this topic. Count me in.

Thanks for the contribution - as usual, you're lightning-fast. Thanks for the contrib - I've added the file to the devel branch of the cvs and uploaded it to the website as well (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/faq_fr.htm). I removed most legacy mark-up and improper nesting of tags, please use the file from the CVS as base for further contribution. You should avoid deprecated tags like <font>. However, please don't take this as criticism - I really appreciate your hard work.

hope to get it by the end of this week
yes, please go ahead - we're looking forward to it.
Japanese translation done. ;)
I'm really sorry for late.
Thanks for your contrib - I have added the file to the stable branch of the CVS and the demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=japanese)
I'm doing italian translation.
Quite finished...
;)
It seems that I won't be able to make the 1.4.x translation in Greek, as I did with the previous versions... At least not soon. :-[
If anyone of you Greeks reading this board is willing to do it, please send me a PM...

Ganesh thank you very much but they have not included your translation in the download package. If you download the latest version you'll find the old buggy release...
Yes I know they don't... But I just posted it today...
You can download it from my previous post by now.
That´s the way it by neccesity has to be, when it´s an open source project with people working as volunteers and without deadlines. Thats also the explanation why there is a CVS in the project.
Is it possible to upload in the CVS?
No, only the dev team can do that, and it will with your lang file.
Yeah! That's the right way!
Thank You very grazie!

That's expected behaviour, we don't create a new package every day. The italian translation by Ganesh will go into the next maintenance release. Meanwhile, do as suggested already and download the attached version.

I'll do the swedish translation.

I'll do the swedish translation.
Rats! ;) or good for me... I started with it earlier today to!
Do you think there is any point in trying to divide the work? If so Let me know!
BTW: I'm looking in the swedish.php in the 1.4.2 package for witch words to use...
Ecto and Beez,
Funny - but also great !
If you start a team work on this swedish translation I adviceYou not just cut the lang file in two parts and then start translating "blindly". Do an overall comparison of the swedish lang file for 1.3.X and compare with the structure of the file for 1.4.2. There is a lot a good and hard work put that file for swedish for 1.3.X - use it !
Get the overall file structure of the lang file right first by merging the engish file 1.4.2 with the swedish file for 1.3.X. Then in every "Block" (file related to core files) do a lini by line comparison that your swedish file in progress is equal to the english file for 1.4.2, exept in the text strings - in the merged file in progress it will be a combination of swedish (from the old swedish lang file) and english (for the lang file for 1.4.2) - Then translate and scrutinize the already existing swedish text strings for bugs typos etc. !
It´s all about working smarter not harder ! - and first part of the work is it not possible to split between two persons.
Use WinMerge or Araxis for the work.
I think you're going to have problems (when it comes to certain words) if you look in swedish.php for which words to use - it was when I was looking in swedish.php and saw 'Focal length' translated to 'Fokallängd' and not 'Brännvidd' I decided I could improve the language file. And I'm of course speaking about a minority of words I saw which could be better translated. Like John said, a lot of work has been put into the language file, and that should of course be used and appreciated!
About dividing the work - it depends on how picky you are? :) Because I'm like the language police.. I feel bad when I see words misspelled, badly translated or "sär skrivna". And in the end maybe it'll be more work making up a plan for dividing the work, check with each other etc, than it'll be for one of us to just do it. But it could be good also.. what do you think?
John - thanks for the info!
I'm kinda picky me to :-) I think, as you said, that it might be more work trying to split the work... But we can share our translations later.
What I meant with the swedish.php for 1.3 was that I would look at certain words and use the once I find useful. I'll be using the english.php for 1.4 and change that. I don't think I'll try to merge them. A little to much "bad" translations...
ecto: I'm totally with you - Stoppa Särskrivning!
Hi all,
i made myself a translation to spanish, base on the english file from the CVS and the translation made by Daniel Villoldo tha comes with the 1.4.2 version.
My mistake was to not notice that the threat was more than one page long (6 total) and i don't see the reply made by Daniel Villoldo. So I post my file here maybe it can help you.
I tested it with my instalation and it's working, but i used a more formal way to referer to the user and not the informal way it was, but..... i don't modify the old ones and i don't know if i can finish cause i see a lot of work in my way now.
I do the translation basically cause a needed, and i hope it can help you.
Any question feel free to contact me at jescribens at phantasia dot com dot pe
Thanks
thanks for the contrib - added to stable branch of cvs.
Hi. I saw you was discussing swedish.php . I have been doing most of it. And I used the old as a templete.
What I have not done is tah dispalyimage.php part as it have som many bad translations in the 1.3 version.
Also I am not done with versioncheck.php and briding.php.
So maybe we can put our thins togeter.
Hans
Heh, suddenly we have an armada of swedish translators :D Odd thing we all started more or less at the same time, and that noone else begun earlier as there's been almost half a year since this thread was started. Well well, the more the merrier right?
Since I've been busy doing Exif (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24840.msg114537#msg114537) mods (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=9360.msg113996#msg113996), I know hfohrman has done more than I, and I guess the same applies for Beez also. So maybe it's best you guys do the main translation, and then I can double-check your work. That way we'll combine three minds, and we'll have the best swedish translation for Coppermine so far! :)
Let's continue this discussion privately.
hey, I don't know if there is any, but I did a part of polish translation for 1.4.x so if anybody need it, just download..
not whole file is translated but almost (most important) half of it, I'm working on the second half Smiley
the file is based on the english.php file so the phrases which are not translated are in english.
I recommended to atach the file to 1.4.2 package, cause the one atached isn't working well (it nailed me down to make the translation), I think, that all Poles will be grateful if you do it GauGau
thanks for your contribution. However, your version contains several errors. When you use it from your download, there's a parse error in line 1502. Additionally, there are html headers and footers in the file that are not meant to be there. However, I fixed those things and converted the file to utf-8 - it is in the stable branch of the cvs.
Hello,
you wrote in your translation list Hungarian (Petardo). But I haven't find any message posted by Petardo replaing to [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.4.x . I wonder about the Hungarian translation. Is there someone who makeing it? If I see it well the last package contains the earlier (version 1.3.x) Hungarian language file.
I'am Hungarian, using the new 1.4.2 version. May be I can help to do the translation.
Gabor
So far, no hungarian translation has been contributed for cpg1.4.x, although petardo has agreed to do it. Maybe he is too busy. I suggest you contact him, maybe you can share the work.
I sent a mail to Petardo but I get the following answer:

hi GauGau, will you consider changing chinese_big5.php and chinese_gb.php to chinese_trad.php and chinese_simp.php?
i think people are starting to get confused, 1.4x uses utf-8 and the files still say big5 and gb.
thanks
for cpg1.4.x: no, as this would require code changes that are new features imo.
for cpg1.5.x: yes.
yeah i was talking about future release.
please do change the file name to chinese_trad.php and chinese_simp.php
i will change the file name when the language is ready to be updated.
Swedish translation done!
Sorry it took so long. I and Beez have worked really hard with this one, making it a really good translation without grammatical errors (or other errors hopefully, but it might be hard catching 'em all when there's 2100+ lines to translate), making it a stable ground for future translations, where translators won't have to review everything in the previous translation to verify that it is correct.
I also made a big deal about translating the Exif tags correctly, reading up on the Exif specifications and asking experienced photographers at fotosidan.se. Swedes might want to check out that thread:
http://www.fotosidan.se/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51106 (thanks!)
After checking around a LOT I now believe that this is the best and most comprehensive swedish Exif translation so far (no, it's not hubris).
I also made comments on almost every Exif tag (and sorted them more logically), so that other translators can look at the comments to know what thery're actually trying to translate. During this translation I've seen some horrible swedish Exif translations, which were simply wrong words used because people didn't know what they were translating. My suggestions is that the devs also put these comments in the other language files, or compile a file with that info and point translators to it.
I put both a utf-8 and a iso-8859-1 file in the attached zip, as I know some people still prefer iso-8859-1.
Thanks to hfohrman for additional testing.
Oh, and by the way.. MERRY CHRISTMAS! :D

I add comments by ecto from swedish.php to the latest english.php from CVS.

Hi all,
I've just translated polish lang file for Coppermine 1.4.2. File was tested at my place (fotojoler.net), so I'm happy now to put it at forum :)
Polish lang file was earlier partially translated by Jacek Domoń for version 1.3.x, I've made it 1.4.x ready.
Have fun.
added your file to the stable branch of the cvs (after converting it to utf-8). Thanks for the contrib. Demo: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=polish
I've made some final corrects in polish lang file and replaced attachment in my previous post two posts above.
I've also found out, that texts 'Entering admin mode...', 'Leaving admin mode...' and names of months and days of week are taken in english language when checkbox 'Display in english when phrase not found' is checked in Config menu, even if these texts are properly included in lang file (pe polish.php). When this checkbox is not checked, texts are of course taken in selected language. I gues that is a bug...
greets - jolo
jolo, that admin mode language fallback issue is fixed in 1.4.3. See http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=25003.0.

Portuguese (PORTUGAL) translation in progress!!!!
sould i use uft-8 for portuguese? I=m getting strange characters at final result!
I´m using iso-8859-1 for the Brazilian Portuguese version.
My tests with uft-8 were not very sucessfull, specially when I tried to show some coppermine data on other pages of my site. Probably because all the rest of it were using iso-8859-1.
I sugest you do the same.
Regards pra terrinha,
Alex
tried but not working!!!! Just the accentuated words like ç or á wont display properly!
Thanks anyway
Viva Brasil!!
I don´t know why, but the words have to be written in the iso file.
For exemple, if you already wrote on the database a lot of stuff using uft-8, ther errors will not go away just because you are usin iso now.
You have to write all over again, at least that´s was what made it work for me.
I just took the english file that is already in iso and started translating it, at some point I tested it and it worked, I even posted some data to recover it on the coppermine album and on other php aplications.

I won't, as there are issues with rar vulnerabilities that could compromise the webserver's security. Additionally, not everyone has a packing utility that can decompress rar archives, so we go for the agreed standard, which is zip (at least in the windows world). Lunix users should have tools to unpack zip archives as well.

Here is the complete Ukrainian translation for the Coppermine version 1.4.3.
Archive contains the versions for cp-1251 and utf-8. Copy the appropriate one to your web site renaming the file to ukrainian.php. For cp-1251 site you'll have to set "Codepage" to "Default (language file)" in the Gallery Preferences.
If you need KOI - convert it using any appropriate converter (i.e. iconv -f cp-1251 -t koi-8 ukrainian-cp1251.php > ukrainian.php) and change the corresponding line in the language file.
Hey GauGau.
I think I would be able to translate Coppermine 1.4.x into danish.
Did I understand this correct; I can take the 1.3.x-danish-language file, and then just put in the lines from the 1.4.x english.php that is followed by "//cpg1.4" into the new 1.4.x danish.php ? If you understand ? :D

$lang_charset = 'utf-8';
Coppermine version 1.4.3 doesn't use any other charset than utf-8, so there is no nead for 1251.

Yes. You can take 1.3.x and put new lines from 1.4.x English.php.
BUT!!!1-st, not all new lines in 1.4.x are marked with "//cpg1.4"
2-nd, some lines have been changed from 1.3.x also are not marked with "//cpg1.4".
When I was translatin from my 1.3.x to 1.4.x I checked every line.
I am using "Araxis Merge v6.5" to make translations.
Webmok,
Please read the starting post in this topic, and what Makc666 has written in his post after yours. If You have understood what's written by Makc666 and have the tools avaiable also merntioned by Makc666, please feel free to drop me a PM or email, if it´s not You that already have.
you shouldn't start with a cpg1.3.x file, but with the cpg1.4.x english language file. Do the translation from scratch, open another editor window to have a look at the cpg1.3.x language file for your language just for comparison.
When starting with a cpg1.3.x language file and trying to insert all cpg1.4.x strings, there is a danger that you forget some strings or you fail to notice that some strings have been moved from one section to the other.
GauGau,
I'm already working on the danish translation for CPG 1.4.x. I think You also should have asked Webmok to get in contact with me, so I asked Webmok to contact me by PM or email so that I could explain Webmok how to do this translation without filling up this topic with trivial discussions about how to do the work in a proper way.
And I disagree with You on that's not possible to get use of the old existing CPG 1.3.x without loosing lines in the final file, it's only a matter of having the necessary tools available, which is Araxis Merge 6.5 - You can't do it with WinMerge.
Webmok hasn't contacted me yet.

This is not exactly true. On our portal we used Coppermine for a really long time, also it is integrated into Mambo portal. Thus at this point I have a large database of data in cp-1251. The simplest way to use cpg 1.4.x was to create cp1251 language file and force CPG working in CP-1251. And actually it works just well.
The alternative approach is to convert all our portal databases, static pages, Mambo etc totally to UTF-8. Unfortunately this will take the amount of time I can't currently afford.
So, if you need to use CPG in non-utf codepage - you'll need no more than the alternative codepage language file. I beleive this alternative could be helpful for some sites with non-utf heritage.
Hjort, I haven't received anything from you yet.

I said that CPG 1.4.x is now based on UTF-8.
If you create cp1251 language file for one language, than you have to create all other language files for your gallery.
I just wanted to say that including cp1251 laguage file in translation archive is not right and can confuse some users which even doesn't know what cp1251 is.

Agree. So the proper way is to publish UTF-8 translation + hint about what to do if you are using other codepage.

Hjorth, no if you're already working on the translation that's fine with me.
I would just like the translation soon, 'cause I really need it.
Webmok,
Appearently,
- I have already recieved some kind of asking for hand outs for my work in progress from You ( I think I can deduct from Your handle which one among several), without offering cooperation on this and starting an openminded discussion about how to cooperate on this task, for faster achievement of the goal for this Open Source project, thereby
- rejecting my puclic invitation to put in Your contribution,
- You don't have a clue about how this work has to be done, ref. Your own questions in this topic,
- You just ignore what I wrote in public to You earlier in this topic,
In my opinion, that's really Open Source project attitude.
Enough said.

Hi !
I was looking for a hungarian language file for the new coppermine version. I believe, that someone is working on it. How can I contact this guy, maybe I can help, or take over the work, if he is too busy ? ::)
Or shall I start a new translation ? :o
Omg, Hjorth what is your problem? Sitting here, acting all ignorant about the whole thing?
At first, I offered Coppermine my help because there WAS and uhm.. yes, there ARE no danish version yet for 1.4.x. That's a problem, don't you think?
Second, when approaching me, your answer was all rude, and no, you did not, and I will say it twice; you did NOT send me a pm.
Third, you're not even acting like a opensource-dude yourself. No you seem consider yourself the danish-translate-master. Anyway, there is no problem in doing a project yourself - but you should release this translation, so other people could have pleasure of translating their gallery into their own language.
- By the way, this is not a competition. If I choose to send in another version of the danish translation, you shouldn't whine all about it. But sure, go ahead - if you believe that you're able to do the translation in a near future, go translate it. I think we're a lot who would really like to be able to download the danish.php.
So don't be a smartass, alright? Jesus..

Thanks for volunteering. Petardo (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?action=profile;u=34) has agreed to do the cpg1.4.x translation for Hungarian, yet I haven't heard from him for quiet some time. Please try contacting him, offering help. If he doesn't respond in time, please start your own translation. Thanks.
@webmok and John Hjorth: please calm down, stop the flame war, it will not lead to a productive outcome. If you can agree an working together on the Danish translation, that's fine. If you can't, go ahead and do your own translation. We're looking forward to any contribution.

I'm a professional editor & writer so I have to undeline that there are some mistakes in Russian translation. It looks like if I would translate from Russian to English. If somebody cares about it u r welcome to send me e-mail.
why not post publicly instead of sending emails? Let others benefit from you insight. Post your fixed russian language file on the board. There's an official translation thread I'm merging your thread with.
Thank u) I wil. But as a matter of fact there is no reason to change ALL FILE. Those who use Russian only need to replace very few words, for example - до свиданиЕ with до свидания. Another mistakes r in cases. I named this mistakes awfull because it's about elementary/primary school, not university education & when I received admin message " Кто-то разместил комментарий в вашей галереИ", I was really shocked. However I apprisiate the great job done by translator:)
Polish translation for the 1.4.3 version.
There's a problem with the month names, the gallery seems to ignore them. Also, I skipped the FAQ for the moment.
thanks for the contrib - it's a pity though that I have to flag it as partial translation only. Added to stable branch of cvs and demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=polish).
Sorry about that. We're testing it right now, if everything will look ok then I'll finish it, but it might take some time. We're currently hunting down stupid translation errors. I mean, there shouldn't be any at this stage, but... you never know...

Hello,
I just installed Coppermine to my homepage, but found that no Hungarian translation is available, so I decided to create one. I already started it. I don't promise anything, I son't know whether I'll have enough time to do it, but I promise that I'll keep you updated if no translation will come from me.
I saw that earlier Hungarian translations had still no results at all. So, I'm working on it.
I'm translating to the Czech language.
If somebody want to help me I'll be glad.

It's a pity that the translation is only partial though. However, I have added it to the stable branch of the CVS.
I do not know how the progress is for the translation of the Danish language file for CPG, but ...
Some people visiting my gallery still keep asking me, where I got my Danish language file compatible with CPG 1.4.3 from.
The answer: I have translated about 90% of the english language file myself. The remaining translation is the helptext in admin.
Some words maybe needs correction, but it works well :)
The translation has been tested live since 2006 january 22.
The gallery can be viewed here in Danish: http://www.fritidoghobby.dk/fotogalleri/index.php (http://www.fritidoghobby.dk/fotogalleri/index.php)
Do you want this unofficiel translation? I can attach the file here.
Webleif,
Great :D - naturally You should put it in here. You are longer than I am on the translation work - I could focus my work on the resting part of Your file and send it to you for a file merge, and I could do a file comparison to get the best out of both, sop that we perhaps quite fast could get an accomplished translation.
Hi John,
Great idea :)
Thank you for the fast respond, I have attached the file.
Just modify and merge all you want and let us get a final Danish language file for CPG 1.4.x

I have started the greek translation.
I have the old one (from v1.33) but I'm doing it all again.

I have found this at the editpics.php section.
'file_exists' => "Destination file '%s' already exists.", //cpg1.4
shouldnt the ' character be prefixed with a backslash?
Also, I read somewhere in this topic that the utf-8 i a standard but in the guide (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm) I read these:
You'll have noticed that coppermine language files come in two "flavors": one in ANSI and one in utf-8 encoding. You do not have to concern yourself with the creation of the utf-8 version, only have the "standard" language file.
Which applies and what should I do?
Thanks

You're right in this aspect - this is a flaw in the translator's guide, I'll fix asap. In cpg1.4.x, the files come only in utf-8. It doesn't matter though how you contribute your translation: if it's in another encoding, the dev team will convert it accordingly to utf-8 before adding it to the package.
Thanks for your reply GauGau.
If it's not a problem I would like to learn how to do myself the convertion to utf-8, as I got a warning about characters not existing in code page 1253 (ANSI Greek) when I tried to open the greek utf-8 translation of v1.33 with textpad.
Also, if this why files added previously with greek filenames cannot be read now? Filenames are displayed as ?s and the gallery just cannot handle them.
Is there a workaround for this?
Thanks again
Nakis

To the people asking me for the portuguese translation! Is not yet finished, so feel free to do it.
Thanks for the contrib, I added it to the stable branch of the CVS. It's a pity that the translation is only partial (some parts are still in English).
@All who speak Danish: there has been a lot of discussion about the Danish translation, yet there has been no contribution yet. I don't want to pressurize you, but imo cpg1.4.x has been out long enough already - it should have been a period long enough to come up with a translation. If you have a partial translation, why don't you post it? A translation that is incomplete or has some spelling mistakes is better than no translation at all.

unable to replicate - for me, the turkish language file is working flawlessly, downloading the package from the server. What section is suppossed to be broken? Actually, the file you submitted is in iso8859-9, while all "true" cpg1.4.x language files are in utf-8 encoding, so I converted the file you submitted in the first place before it went into the package. If you think that you have actually found a bug, start a new thread that discusses this in detail, but I guess you just haven't figured out what utf-8 is and what settings you need to apply in coppermine.

Translations are user contributions. If there is no language file in the package, then nobody has submit it. If you need it that badly, hire someone to do the translation - there's no point in complaining here that no translation has been done - especially if you're a pro (saying that you have a customer makes me think so at least) you should know and understand what open source software is about: it's a community effort!

I already have, but it doesn't show on the web CVS, so I guess this is related to the issues sf.net had last week with their CVS servers. I'll modify it and re-commit, let's see if it appears then.
Currently, web CVS says that the outdated persian language file has been moved to the attic. Web CVS lags behind, please try accessing http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/stable/lang/persian.php in a few hours

Yeah, me too ;D
If you cannot and don't have time I could make the Bulgarian translation.
This is an announcement thread, please don't request things here. The user who volunteered to come up with the bulgarian translation hasn't come up with a submission yet, so if you need the translation that badly, please start translating it and contribute your version. You might want to contact the initial volunteer, so you could share what you have so far and come up with a version together.
This is Bulgarian UTF-8/ANSI translation for CPG 1.4.x. (1.5) without bridgemgr.php, faq.php and versioncheck.php (for the impatients users ;-) )
Cheers :)
I have translated the Danish language file and have included it here.
Still a few things to do, but it is a start.

Look, I have told you already that it
is in the CVS, it just doesn't show on the web CVS. That's an issue our host sourceforge.net has, there's little we can do to fix this. The persian language file exists in SVN as well (see http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/persian.php?view=log). It won't go into cpg1.4.4 - once a package got released, we don't change it. It will go into cpg1.4.5
We're about to move from CVS to SVN right now.

Hi, I'm about to finish the translation in greek for coppermine 1.4.4! Could you please tell me what should I do next?? Inform me as soon as possible at preza@ceid.upatras.gr .Thank You! :)

Hi all!
Before starting the Brazilian Portuguese translation, it would be good to clarify what's the Portuguese version translation in progress? Portugal's or Brazil's?
I downloaded the english.php from the csv and I'm ready to give it a go! =)
I really wanted to add to this community. Coppermine is really great, I've been using it for years.
the portuguese translation in the package is the one for Portugal. I think it would be OK to base your translation for Brazil on the Protuguese language file and just change the strings that differ for Brazil.
OK Gagau
I'll use the Portuguese/Portugal file as a basis. That will certainly speed up the work. ;D
I have a question concerning the heredoc syntax: the string highlight disappears after editing... Probably just a bug from the editor... (TSW webcoder)
Turkish translation updated:
Hi Coppermine lovers!!!!
Small update to the portuguese(Portugal) translation, just the Ecards and minor gramatical errors!
Not yet finished, work in progress!
please post it when it is final in your opinion - it's causing extra work to update the version in the svn for each and every minor fix. Thanks for sharing though!
Ok, i will do it!
I will do the Macedonian translation, if there isn't any.
(In fact I have translated the most part but I have problems selecting it in the Admin menu)

this is not a support thread, and there will be definitely no support by email. Start a new thread on a support board, and attach your translation (even if it is not working) to your posting.
Hello,
Here is a missing Finnish translation... I found a very old version, which helped me a little (although it had lots of spelling & grammar mistakes). If you are a Finn, feel free to correct any mistakes in this new version.
And thanks to everyone developing this nice gallery :)
any news about the Romanian translation ?
If you need it badly, translate it.

Would it be alright if I re-translate the Dutch languagefiles? The current one contains a lot of mistakes in the translations.
Thanks,
Aaron.
Yes, go ahead, but please do only replace strings that are obviously wrong. There has been a flame-war on the dutch translation for cpg1.3.x already, basically because various dutch translators had an argument over stuff that I considered "matter of taste" rather than actual bugs or typos. Re-doing a translation requires tact as well as language skills. I recommend providing alternative translations commented out and adding comments about questionable strings as well.
That was my idea already. Not the entire translation is wrong, but there are strings (like "Approval" in the Groups panel has been translated with "Akkoord", which means "Accept") which were translated very wrong, and may cause misunderstandings. :(
I'll post a new version here once I've finished the corrections, it may take some time since it's exam time at school. :)

Hi GauGau, after a short break I am coming back to support the project. The most recent Polish language file (downloaded with 1.4.8 ) was corrected by me. I have completed some parts that were missing, like bridge support, and added some minor additional corrections. I have also added my details (Jacek Domoń) to the translation file, hope this will be OK.
Wish all the best!
Jacek
There are some mistakes made in the Dutch translation... Is the original translator willing to make
the corrections, so that in another release the corrected translation is distributed? Or shall I (I'm better in Dutch then in English ;D)?
Roland Middelveld
There has been a contribution for a corrected translation of the Dutch language file only recently, and quite some heated argument about it as well. Dutch people seem to be very strict when it comes to their language. Anyway, please review the discussion and make sure that you have the most recent version of the subversion repository (stable branch) before starting to correct it - check http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/dutch.php
Greetings,
I have started an Icelandic translation. A complete, proof-read version is scheduled for end of september.
Icelanders are very picky when it comes to translations, therefore I will send the English and Danish version along with my initial version to selected group of people. You should have a firm and good translation once submitted.
Should anyone be willing to participate please contact me.
GauGau: Kindly add me to the translators mailing list.

There is no such list, sorry. Thanks for your willingsness to contribute. Please make sure to check out the most recent english language file from the stable branch of the svn repository (http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/english.php) (as suggested above) first (as a base file to start the translation from) and to read the translator guide (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm) that comes with coppermine.
You're of course free to handle the translation process as you see fit, but the idea of open source development is to release early (beta) versions for the benefit of the community and to get feedback, so I suggest you attach your early icelandic draft (as soon as you have come up with one) along with a warning that the translation is still in an early stage. This way, others may review your translation easily in a collaborative effort.
I'm planning to do Latvian translation. I already contacted previous translator Kaspars so it seems to be ok. Not sure about timing though...Hope to get it done in a week or so, but after a week I'm going away for a few weeks so if I don't make it by then, I'll do it in august.

This is not a support thread! As explained on the other thread you tried to hijack (and that I had to lock because of ignorant people like you), you're suppossed to ask support questions on the support board that deals with your coppermine version. Don't clutter the boards. Keep on disrespecting board rules and suffer the consequences! >:(
I'm sorry for that.
Didn't ment to cause any problems.
Editing out your initial posting, making the subsequent replies look silly is even worse. If I would have wanted your posting gone, I could have deleted it or edited it out with just one click. Instead, I bothered to write a lengthy reply, explaining what you're supposed to do. I did not say that you're suppossed to edit out your question. Don't behave like a moron. To give you time to read up the board rules (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=22469.0) and the pages refered on the board rules thread, you're banned from posting for 3 days. >:(
Hello!
This is the final traduction of Copermmine in Albanian. I checked for error and results to me that it does not have any error excpect some typing errors. But I have a small problem and I would like that you help me. It is some words which even translated, appear in English and not in Albanian. exepmle the word "config" and "critical error". There can be other words, but those are what I noted.
http://test.albemigrant.com/album_test/
Greetings, ANURO
You appear to have based your translation on the Albanian language file for cpg1.2.1. This is quite the opposite way round as suggested. In the translator's guide we clearly say that you're suppossed to use english.php as a base for your translation and eventually copy strings from an existing language file from an older coppermine version into it. You did this the other way round, which is technically possible, but it makes it very likely to ommit or forget strings by accident, which appears to be the case for you. You have to understand as well that error messages from mySQL will shine through Coppermine in the language your mySQL database engine runs on the server (which is English no matter what). Additionally, I had to convert your translation from iso8859-1 to utf-8 and change the file header - please check out the stable branch of the svn for future corrections.
Thanks for your contribution anyway: Demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=albanian) - Checkout stable branch of SVN (http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/albanian.php?view=log)
In an other topic i noted that there were some modifications in the dutch language file but i'm affraid it is still bad...
- No UTF8 support, not compliant should i say
- To strict translated
- Not for bigger sites fittable cause of de je/jij usage
- many spelling errors
i'l be making an edited version now and will be posting it here and will provide full utf-8 support
Attached is an updated hebrew file.
@GauGau, Please update the link in the "about" page so it'll direct people to my site (it's on the file). I'm going to create a community for hebrew users of coppermine.
Thanks,
--Lior
Thanks for the update - comitted to stable branch of SVN.
I'll update the about page asap as per request. However, I suggest reviewing the idea to try to build a community off-site: usually such community-building efforts fail because of a lack of activity. I suggest instead considering a hebrew sub-board of the Language-specific support board, please review the threads there. In fact, all it takes is at least one active member (you in that case) who's willing to do the moderation there. Please PM me to discuss details, as this discussion doesn't belong in this thread.

You are using old lang file (probably a 1.3.x one) so you don't translate most part of the config page
Here is the part of Translator's Guide (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm)that will help you to find the last english.php to translate:
QuoteWork in progress
Coppermine, like everything else online, is a work in progress. Your copy of the english.php (that should always be used as the base reference file for your translation) may already be outdated. That's why it is critical that you always refer to the or [url=http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/lang/]CVS - Dev- Language Section (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98540download%20section%5B/url) to make sure that you have the most recent english language file (translator version) on hand before starting your translation (and maybe even the most updated version of this document, as well, as there may be many questions along the way that need to be addressed in this document after the initial release of this document). Remember: if an option/replacement string is not translated, it will not be visible in your language at all.
Also , you can use your old arabic file and add the lost part to it by WinMrge:
QuoteRecommended Tools: to see what has changed between the language files of cpg1.3.x and cpg1.4.x, we recommend using a diff viewer that can highlight the differences in both files. Windows users should opt for the great, changes in file viewer WinMerge (http://winmerge.sourceforge.net/) (available as freeware; 1.95 MB, localizations available as well): You can even edit the files with this tool (352 of 1152 lines have been added or changed). All new/changed lines have a comment at the end like this one: //cpg1.4.x
I can read arabic and also can understand it ( very little ! don't try it I , couldn't answer you ;) )
As bmossavari suggested: the file you added a download link for is not an actual cpg1.4.x language file, but one for cpg1.3.x, so you could have used the arabic language file that already exists for this particular version. However, this is not subject of this thread - it's meant for cpg1.4.x contributions. Do as suggested and read the translator's guide. Read the first postings of this thread as well: it's not a support thread!

Hi,
I've worked some time in a real Portuguese Brasilian translation to Coppermine 1.4.x. The brasilian_portuguese.php file wish comes with Coppermine 1.4.9 is not a real Brasilian Portuguese. It has several errors and Portuguese Portugal terms like ficheiro and utilizador. I was attach a zip file containing my Brasilian Portuguese version in ISO-8859-1 code page, because nobody I know uses UTF-8 in Brazil.
Sorry my poor English
--
Oi,

I want to make more publlicity of COPPERMINE in my country where more people have new computers connected on internet and they want to share travel pictures.
For examples: danrm.1500mb.com/album.html
Well, one good way to make more publlicity, is to let me create the romanian.php translation file for Romanian Language.
If you accept that i will by honored.
I wait your answer when you have time.
Thank you very much !
Best regards !
Have a nice day !

Please go ahead, we're looking forward to your contribution ;D. Make sure to review the first posting(s) of this thread and the subsequent translator's guide. Once you're done, zip up your translation and attach it to your posting on this thread.

I'm sorry GauGau, next time i will make a new posting if there's a change.
the attached file same with the previous posted.
Please go ahead and contribute your language file, we're looking forward to it. Fonts can be changed in your theme's stylesheet. Are you sure that you're refering to fonts and not encodings? Maybe one of the dev team members from India could answer your question. In the meantime, I recommend contributing what you have so far.
Hi there
I have downloaded coppermine last week and am using it.
Now, since I am from Belgium, and speak Dutch, I corrected the Dutch language pack (spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes, missing spaces and all that). Mostly typos that have been corrected.
Thought I'd post it here for you all.
Enjoy :)
P
Thanks for your contribution. There have been other postings on this thread that discuss the dutch language files (yes, it's even some sort of a flame war), with some dutch-speaking users arguing that there are loads of spelling mistakes inside the language file, blaming each other for introducing mistakes. As I don't speak Dutch, I can't judge if modifications are just a matter of taste or actual fixes of spelling mistakes, so I'd ask you to review this thread and contact the other contributors of dutch language file versions and discuss your suggested changes with them.
Thanks in advance.
Joachim

Thanks for your effort to contribute. However, you must never post an admin account on a public board. It's a huge security risk, even on a demo gallery, as it could be used to ruin your entire site. I have changed the password for the account you posted and sent it to you by PM.
It's also advisable to use the demo in utf-8 mode and not to bundle the entire coppermine package with your language file, but to publish only your language file. Downloading the file from your site was extremely slow for me and failed, so I had to restart several times (it seems like you're self-hosted or your webhost has issues). As I don't speak Thai, it was rather hard to find the download link for your language.
Could you please zip up just your language file and attach it to your posting (using "additional options" when composing your message)? Thanks
Joachim

As suggested in the very first posting of this thread, we prefer language contributions to be attached to this thread instead of external links, emails or similar. Anyway, looked into the file but discovered that you have used some "strange" encoding. As suggested in the translator's guide, you should use utf-8 encoding. I tried converting it, but I'm not sure if this works as expected, please check the demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=thai). Find the file here: http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/thai.php
Hi there!
although I have used CPG many times, now I want to translate it in Catalan.
Is there a possibility to have a previous version of the translation (maybe 1.2.x), so I don't have to start from scratch?
Thanks and good work! :)
Sure, just download the old package (cpg1.3.5 (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.5.zip)) and extract the Catalan language file from it. Please note though: don't use the cpg1.3.x language file as a base, adding strings to it. Do it the other way around instead: use the cpg1.4.10 English language file and translate it one line by one - you may open the outdated language file in another editor window though and have a glance at it from time to time. The reason why we recommend this method is that only this way we can make sure that none of the needed lines get ommitted by mistake. For details on the recommended method to translate, please review the translator's guide (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm) mentioned in the very first posting of this thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=20355.msg89164#msg89164).
Would You be so kind to update Georgian translation with attached file (minor changes - mainly some termins)?
Thanks.
I've made some corrections to dutch.php.
- replaced ë with ë
- replaced é with ´
- replaced catagorie with categorie
- replaced x-symbol with x (height x width)
I hope I found everything :)

Why use dependant codes while there are standards?
I had to check everything because it didn't show up right on my system.
dutch.php will mostly be used on/by Dutch people I guess and they won't have all utf-8.
You don't have to use my file, I made it for myself and thought it could be usefull for others.

utf-8 is a standard, and it's recommended by the w3c.
Quote from: ff on November 20, 2006, 07:35:14 AMI had to check everything because it didn't show up right on my system.
Then you set something up improperly in the first place and instead of fixing it you tried to find a workaround. You drew the wrong conclusions, I'm afraid. Use the original file and set encoding to utf-8 (unicode) in coppermine's config. For details, start another thread, as this isn't actually a support thread.

Trust me: everyone has utf-8. In your browser, it may be labelled "unicode". Out of the box, all major browsers are set to display utf-8 encoded pages by default (automatic encoding). It's part of the HTML standards - you define an encoding in the header, and nearly all browsers (IE4 or better, Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.) recognize the encoding and display them automatically.

I'm aware that I don't have to use your file, thanks. I just replied for the benefit of others, to make sure that others don't use your file as a workaround for their encoding issues. When using your file, you'll run into issues sooner or later.
As suggested above: if you want to find out more details, start a thread of your own on the support board. If you think that my advice doesn't apply to you and want to use your modified version, then go ahead and use it at your own risk.

I've started translating Coppermine's FAQ and documentation in Italian: is this something useful? Can I go on?
Yes, this is very welcome - please go ahead. We're looking forward to your translation. As an example, you might review the french translation of the docs that go with the coppermine package.
The most important is the actual documentation, the FAQ is less important in our opinion. However, we'd of course love to see both documents.
Lengthy discussion about the translation into Hindi has been split into a separate thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=38912.0).
Not sure if already started but i'm planning to start tanslating it into estonian
Hi folks... im very happy with this script and its support. ;D
I want to contribute but I dont know if it necessary ???
I was thinking in translate the documentation that come with the pack to spanish (very used language)... the index page (in the docs folder) at least.
What do you think about it? ;) would be useful?
You're very welcome , please use last version's documentation and also check the french translation of documentation as an example
Thanks! :D
I´ll do it... maybe it could take a time to be finished because i'll do it in my freetime.
Would you see the progress or the finished translation?
regards.

Hi... im translating right now point by point to spanish. Checking out the french translation i can see that our folk missed some points to translate to. IE: he did point 2.1 and then point 2.2, overlooking sub-points 2.1.1, 2.1.1.1, 2.1.1.2, 2.1.1.3 and 2.1.2. :-\ And I think there are a lots of points overlooked in the rest of the document.
So... should I do the same? yes - no - however u like - something else - is faster that way - we dont care - ???
No need for you to review the French language file (it is based on an older copy, that's why some sections are missing). The reference to the French language file has just been posted to give you an idea how your translation could look like in terms of screenshots and naming conventions. Please disregard the missing sections in the French documentation and base your Spanish version on the English one. Thanks in advance. If you're going to post updates or "work in progress" bits, please start a new thread for it on the support board.
QuoteAnd I think there are a lots of points overlooked in the rest of the document.
We know they are somme missed section in the french doc. I'm workin there and will post a new french doc when it's finished. ;)
Hi folks and happy 2007

Still no words about the romanian translation for version 1.4. ? Or I am so stupid that I've missed it while searching in this topic? Thank you .
If you need it, then create it. We have to rely on user contributions for translations. There is no point in requesting additional translations. Read the translator's guide as suggested in the initial posting of this thread.
Very important for everybody who needs the Romanian translation for version 1.4 : I've installed the translation in romanian available from version 1.3 and ...a big, big suprise : It works for 1,4 , too !! So all of you who need the romanian translation, simply install the old 1.3 file into the 1.4 release. It worked for me !
It will work for your users but you will have to switch to english to admin your gallery.
@cataa: congrats, you just discovered the language fallback feature. As Nibbler suggested, this will work for your users, but not for you (as admin). Why don't you (or someone else who needs Romanian) come up with an actual translation instead?
I made a new hungarian language file, the old one contains more than 2000 (!) faults of spelling. My language file is not perfect but better than the previous:
http://www.c-18.hu/privat/hungarian.zip (http://www.c-18.hu/privat/hungarian.zip)
(I cant speak english very well, but i know my language:) .)
Keep up the good work, thank you! :)

Nibbler already found out about the russian language file that went into cpg1.4.12 being broken and fixed it (see "blank login screen after install cpg 1412 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=45006.msg214191#msg214191)"). I should have tested it before committing it to the svn repository, but I thought that you were experienced enough to only provide working files, so I skipped the testing that I usually perform when a user contributes a file. I stand corrected, I promise I'll test all user-contributed language files from now on no matter who the contribution comes from. Sadly, this means that we'll have to package yet another release, which is not good for the reputation of the project (and of course it means a lot of extra work).
The file you attached is not based on the version from the SVN repository, which makes it useless for me - Nibbler corrected the parse error manually.. In the future, please do only use the most recent files from the repository for editing/improving/fixing.

Here is a missing Finnish translation... I found a very old version, which helped me a little (although it had lots of spelling & grammar mistakes). If you are a Finn, feel free to correct any mistakes in this new version.
I found two small mistakes in lang/finnish.php that comes with CPG 1.4.12
Here's the firstSearch for 'FocalLength' => 'Valotusaika'
Replace with 'FocalLength' => 'Polttoväli'
And here's the secondSearch for 'FNumber' => 'FNumber'
Replace with 'FNumber' => 'Aukon koko'
I hope these will be fixed in future releases. Thanks in advance!

Hi!
This is the catalan translation for Coppermine gallery 1.4.12.
Bye
:D Hello world !
First of all, Coppermine rocks !
After 3 days of work,I've just finished the romanian complete translation (from scratch, using english.php 1.4.10 3275) for Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.10 (stable). The translation contain also the diacritical marks. I upload it here. I tested it , if someone find mistakes please contact me by e-mail.I hope that it will be included in next releases if it pass.I also ask any romanian professional photograph (or others) that know the romanian translations of EXIF informations, to contact me by e-mail.
Thanks in advance.
Reason for editing : Modified language file for UTF-8 Charset
As suggested in the intial announcement posting of this thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=20355.msg89164#msg89164): please zip your translation file(s) and attach it to your posting on this thread (using "additional options" when composing your message) . that's the way to upload and contribute files. You appear to have done so - thanks. Please don't post in all-bold (I edited your posting, undoing the bold format). Is there any particular reason for using the outdated cpg1.4.10 as a base instead of the most recent cpg1.4.12? The translator's guide (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/translation.htm) says to use the most recent stable release.
GauGau, can you send me your instant messenger ID, i have one question about translation (i can't find a variable in english.php).
I downloaded the 1.4.12 (stable) to look for further modifications.
PS: Thanks for adding my work to Subversion Repository.
Don't send PMs, but post your questions publicly.
Ok. No PM's.
I have this problem:
I cannot find to translate:
"User galleries
This category contains albums that belong to Coppermine users." ,
as seen in the atached photo.
It's normal, those two lines are in the category manager. The gallery admin can change it from the admin menu=>category=>usergallery
It's not in the lang file...
...as suggested in the documentation that comes with coppermine...
Like "Reset successful" ... ?
That is displayed in result page after selecting "Reset image counters" in admin tools and hiting "Send" .I know i'm a newbie, and in documentation i don't find anything about changing the string "User galleries" or i'm blind... ::)
http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#cat_alb_pic (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#cat_alb_pic)
Indeed, but "User galleries" translated in Romanian for example , is not the same "User galleries" translated in french or italian.A variable included in the proper files and in language files to this "User galleries" will do the job.Did I make myself understood?
If you're a coder, start a new thread with your code proposal if you know a way to keep database entries multilingual. If you can't code, leave it as-is. Please do not clutter this thread with support-related requests. User galleries is a category. Category names are defined in the database, not in the language file. That's why your request is invalid. It's a known issue that there are some hard-coded strings in util.php. A valid translation is one that contains translations for all strings that exist in english.php. Discussions about possible code changes should not be lead in this thread.
Roger that.I will not clutter anymore in wrong topics.
Btw, I modified the language file to UTF-8, so here it is:
Wouldn't have been necessary (as suggested in the translator's guide) - I already did that for you, with your initial attachment. It has already been committed to the SVN (http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/cpg1.4.x/lang/romanian.php?view=log) - this means that your contribution will be in cpg1.4.13.
Ok. I'm glad to contribute to this project, if you need help with romanian language for further functions that will be implemented in cpg don't hesitate to contact me.Have a nice day.
PS. Soon i will start the work on a theme.I will post my results in the proper category. ;)
After comparing with WinMerge the english.php from 1.4.10 with the one from 1.4.12 , i've seen that files are identical,so the translation is fine for 1.4.12 (only difference was the cariage return and blank lines). Is that a problem ?
I've corected some errors, and the file is now ready to be tested. When it is possible, please upload it to SVN so others may benefit from it. Thank you.
Did as suggested and reviewed your second contribution. Had to re-apply some changes that I already had made to the initial translation (don't change the language name fields unless you know what they do). If you want to edit the file even more, please base your edits on the version I just committed to the SVN (revision 3836 (http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/cpg1.4.x/lang/romanian.php?view=markup&pathrev=3836)) or any later version (always use the most recent version).
Dear Friends..
I am from Turkey.. I saw Coppermine Gallery in IMVU then If you need I want to translate it to Turkish..
There is a Turkish (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?lang=turkish)translation. Thanks for the offer.
I need to come back once again to all these phrases and words that show up in English language on various gallery pages. I would like to identify all of them and insert appropriate code in order to get rid of it and receive my own language (which is German) if that language is selected.
I searched this forum a while and found various people posting the question concerning
User galleries
This category contains albums that belong to Toontown Gallery members
and the moderators always replied that this text can be changed in the admin menu. That is right, however it does not help if you want to keep it in English too.
I have a bilingual gallery (see http://galerie.toontown-click.de) and I found another rather complicated method to identify that string and replace it if necessary. You need to edit index.php for that.
I included the following code lines after
case 'catlist':
// replacing English text for German language
if (strpos($cat_data[0][0],'User galleries')=== false) {}
else { if ($CONFIG['lang']=='german') {$cat_data[0][0]=str_replace('User galleries','Benutzer-Galerien',$cat_data[0][0]);
$cat_data[0][1]=str_replace('This category contains albums that belong to Coppermine users..','Diese Kategorie enthält Alben von Galerie-Mitgliedern.<br /><br /> <br />',$cat_data[0][1]);
}else{$cat_data[0][1].='<br /><br /> <br />';} }
// end of modification
i
If you look closer you'll see that I also added some extra line spacing for the English display too because I wanted a larger gap under that category.
That is a very specific solution, but it doesn't help for still displaying an English text 'User galleries' when clicking on it! ???
It still says Galerie > User galleries in the navigation bar and it's <title> too.
Is there any other solution to replace every occurance of User galleries for instance right after it's being read from the database categories description? I tried on various places but I had no luck yet ... :-[
Another annoying message is popping up sometimes when you login as a normal user. I could find and replace that in init.inc.php:
if ($CONFIG['lang']=='german')
{msg_box($lang_info, 'Wechsel zum Member Mode', $lang_continue, $referer);}
else
{msg_box($lang_info, 'Sending you to admin mode', $lang_continue, $referer);}
But I assume (if I follow other posts of this thread) I'll find more places to add something like this. I know this is not a universal and very elegant solution which should make use of the lang file, but as the developers didn't consider it once they coded these things, it is a little hard for me to get everything bilingual now.
Some professional help of experienced Coppermine coders would be appreciated very much.
cu,
Roli

Actually, both your issues don't belong into this thread. For your first issue (renaming the user galleries "one the fly") I suggest starting a separate thread on the support board, as it clearly is a support request.
The second issue you came up with clearly is a bug (an oversight in translation), which should have gone into a separate thread as well to enable us tracking and fixing it on the bugs board. As you can't start threads on the bugs board, post a separate thread on the support board - a moderator will move it accordingly. Not sure though how your users could see that second message "Sending you to admin mode", as this should only apply for users upgrading from cpg1.3.x, but not for users who started with a fresh install of cpg1.4.x.

Not acceptable. Most recent stable release is cpg1.4.
13. Your last translation update that was not functional was one of the reasons why we had to release cpg1.4.13. I'm not willing to look into this unless your translation is based on the most recent stable release, as I definitely don't want to re-introduce bugs that have been ironed out painfully.

Woho, long time no see guys and gals. :)
I have updated the swedish translation, based on this (http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/cpg1.4.x/lang/english.php?view=markup) file. I hope it's the correct one, as the link to the SVN repository on the translation page in the docs is outdated and doesn't work.
What's changed:
63: removed a couple of "bad words" which aren't really "bad"
211-213: removed Exif-mod stuff (leftovers from my own mod, shouldn't be in the release language file)
268: typo: "kritisk" -> "kritiskt"
306: "denna versionen" -> "den här versionen" (because of swedish dialects one could debate whether it should be "denna versionen" or "denna version", so I changed it to this non-debatable way of saying the same thing. Why is it important? Simply depending on what part of the country you're from it just looks wrong if spelled the "wrong" way)
307: somehow a change had been made on this line after my translation, even though I can't find it in the SVN or in this thread. "bara vara" -> "bara"
337: "sätta på" -> "starta" ("sätta på" in regular swedish can be interpreted as "have sex with")
426: typos: "icke-routbar" -> "icke-routbart", "aktuelt" -> "aktuellt"
438: typo: "nogrann" -> "noggrann"
442: typo: "ogilltiga" -> "ogiltiga"
578: typo: "alfabetisk" -> "alfabetiskt"
602-603: removed Exif-mod stuff (leftovers from my own mod, shouldn't be in the release language file)
620: typo: "dessa inställningarna" -> "dessa inställningar"
665: typo: "anpassat" -> "anpassad" (also changed by someone since my translation)
979: changed "Flash Pix-version" -> "Flashpix-version" (also changed from my translation)
2078: "SVN stabil gren" -> "stabil gren i SVN" (looks better)
2079: "SVN utvecklargren" -> "utvecklargren i SVN" (looks better)
I also, of course, added the new keys introduced since the last translation, and translated them. Sorry if I'm unnecessary detailed on what's been updated, but hey - someone might be interested. :)
About the change from "Flashpix-version" to "Flash Pix-version", which someone apparently made after I posted the first swedish translation here (page 5 or so in this thread); why was it made (does anybody know)? I3A themselves spells it "Flashpix", see http://www.i3a.org/i_flashpix.html. Lots of people, software and sites spell it "FlashPix". That might be okay, but "Flash Pix" is definitely wrong. We should spell it the way I3A does it, imo.
The attached file should be UTF-8, but feel free to double-check it as I'm a bit tired..

While I was making a Danish language file for Stramms modpack I noticed different issues in the original Danish language file from Coppermine 1.4.13.
Everytime the translator have used quotation marks ( " ) in text it had a leading slash ( / ), leading backslash ( \ ) or an ending semicolon ( ; ).
Showes up in Coppermine like this:
";nulstille"; and not as wanted "nulstille"
Is it possible to use quotation marks in text or should I change quotation marks ( " ) to apostrophe ( ' )and use backslash instead like this:
\'nulstille\'
I see that used in the English language file.

Hi all, here is the Welsh (Cymraeg) translation for 1.4.16.
Feel free to mod as you see fit - or contact me in order to report mistakes. the focus was ease of use (simple but correct language - no impersonal forms / needless mutations / over-technical jargon / "dim tafodiaith").
Full translation (including Windows XP wizard text) except for common abbrevs/acronyms: 'IP', 'SVC', 'EXIF'.
[18/3/08]
The missing couple of lines (see next post from Nibbler) have been translated/fixed - Thank you Nibbler - much appreciated - the checking was pretty thorough, but I think we lost the will to live by the end! :D
Thanks for your contribution. There is a missing translation here though:
$lang_register_approve_email = <<<EOT
A new user with the username "{USER_NAME}" has registered in your gallery.
In order to activate the account, you need to click on the link below or copy and paste it in your web browser.
<a href="{ACT_LINK}">{ACT_LINK}</a>
EOT;
Also, you don't need to translate this:
if (!defined('IN_COPPERMINE')) { die('Nid mewn Coppermine...');}
but at least I learnt some welsh :)
If you want to post the missing translation this can go into the next version of 1.4.

Thanks for your contribution. The place would have been the thread [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.4.x (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,20355.0.html), where you could have attached your contribution. Anyway, thanks for your language file. I have added it to the SVN, so it will be in the next release. I'm posting a copy of this message to the above mentioned thread, so others will get aware of your new translation.

i can help with the bulgarian language ;)
Thanks for your readiness to help. A Bulgarian translation already exists for cpg1.4.x (see http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/cpg1.4.x/lang/bulgarian.php?view=log), but you're of course welcome to improve it (see transaltor documentation). In the very near future, the translation stage for cpg1.5.x will start as well - keep an eye on the corresponding accouncement thread that will be published in the very near future. Please do not ask questions related to cpg1.5.x on this thread here, as it is exclusively dedicated to cpg1.4.x.

I believe you had an extra ' mark in your code.
thanks for you`r help
why can not I create a new topic in a forum?
You can't create a new thread on the announcements board, because you're not a staff member of the coppermine group and therefor are not allowed to speak on our behalf. That's not very surprising in my opinion. You can start a new thread on the support board. Instead of stupidly hijacking this thread with something unrelated, you could have used the wobbly grey mass between your ears before making a fool out of yourself.
